As an American agricultural business, and as a family owned company, Setton believes in not just planning for the future, but working toward a better one.
By exploring new technologies, supporting family farms and encouraging environmentally friendly production methods, Setton is striving to support the next generation while producing superior pistachio products.
Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella is harnessing the power of the sun to make pistachios even greener than before. With the addition of two solar photovoltaic (PV) systems totaling 1.7 MW, Setton’s solar power system is the largest in the central valley.
This new solar power system will produce over 2.6 million kilowatt hours of clean energy per year to sort, roast and package millions of pounds of pistachios each year in Setton’s 300,000 square foot processing facility.
The emissions savings of Setton’s solar power system is equal to planting 400 acres of pine forest annually.
Setton Pistachio maximizes unique opportunities during the harvest period to practice stainable and responsible business practices.
The company routinely recycles virtually all agricultural waste water back onto our orchards as agricultural irrigation water by utilizing custom designed water filtration systems saving approximately 50 million gallons of water each year. Annually, the company also recycles more than 200 million pounds of protein and nutrient-rich agricultural hull bio-matter as cattle feed. Further, the company sells as much as 12 million pounds of pistachio shells to electrical utilities to be burned for power generation. These efforts not only avoids generating large amounts of agricultural waste but reduces the need for the cattle industry to procure cattle feed for as many as 500 head of cattle for 3 months and greatly minimizes the need for local power companies to burn dirty coal, thereby, reducing huge amounts of CO2 emissions.
