Setton Pistachio employs a wide array of optical devices to safeguard against defective pistachios entering the supply chain. We utilize a state-of-the-art X-ray machine to remove foreign material and we operate dozens of high-speed, automated visible-light, infrared, and laser sorters to detect product defects and imperfections. We also employ many highly trained hand-sorters who visually inspect our products for imperfections.
A first for the industry, Setton has designed and implemented a facility-wide anemometry (air flow control) program to control and mitigate risks from airborne contaminants.
The company also developed and implemented aggressive product testing firewalls for both raw and ready-to-eat products. These firewalls use small-lot high-resolution testing to achieve a maximum statistical confidence for detection of microbial presence from the orchards.
